The Ludlow Award: Celebrating What TEAM P3 Is Really About

Every year at TEAM P3, we give out an award that has nothing to do with podiums, PRs, or finish times.
The Ludlow Award exists for a very specific reason: to recognize the athletes who best represent what our club stands for.
Because while TEAM P3 is a triathlon and multisport club, it has never been just about training plans and race results.
It’s about people.
More Than Miles, Watts, and Finish Lines

There are a lot of ways to be a great athlete.
You can be fast. You can be consistent. You can be tough as nails on race day.
And we celebrate all of that.
But the Ludlow Award is different. It exists to honor the athletes who show up for others. The ones who make the community stronger simply by being part of it.
The athletes who:
Check in on teammates when training gets hard
Welcome new members and make them feel like they belong
Offer encouragement instead of comparison
Put the success and well-being of the group ahead of themselves
These actions don’t show up on a results sheet, but they are the foundation of what makes TEAM P3 special.
Living the Values of TEAM P3
TEAM P3 prioritizes community and support. That means supporting one another within the club, but also extending that mindset outward into the larger community we’re a part of.
The Ludlow Award recognizes athletes who live those values consistently and selflessly.
That might look like:
Volunteering time and energy to help others
Giving back to local events, organizations, or causes
Being a steady, positive presence when someone else is struggling
Leading by example through humility, kindness, and generosity
There is no single mold for what a Ludlow Award recipient looks like. Different seasons of life, different strengths, different roles within the club. What connects them is intent. They act in ways that make TEAM P3 better, not louder, not flashier, just better.
Why This Award Matters
Endurance sports can easily become inward-focused. Training demands a lot. Goals can narrow our vision. It’s easy to measure success only in numbers.
The Ludlow Award is a reminder that we value something deeper.
It reinforces that:
Character matters
Community matters
How we treat each other matters
It tells every athlete in the club that being supportive, generous, and selfless is not secondary to performance. It is performance, just expressed in a different way.
What Does a Ludlow Award Recipient Actually Do?
There is no single path to becoming a Ludlow Award recipient. Different people contribute in different ways, and every season of life looks a little different.
What connects past and future recipients is a consistent commitment to making TEAM P3 and the broader community stronger.
That might look like:
Showing up to cheer for teammates at races, even when you're not competing yourself.
Volunteering at local races, community events, or nonprofit organizations that make a positive impact.
Hosting a team gathering, post-race celebration, or social event that helps strengthen relationships within the club.
Reaching out to teammates who are injured, struggling, or going through a difficult season and reminding them they are not alone.
Welcoming new members, introducing them to others, and helping them feel like they belong from day one.
Encouraging others to give back through volunteering, mentoring, community service, or supporting local causes.
None of these actions will improve your finish time or earn you a podium spot. But they make TEAM P3 a stronger, more supportive, and more meaningful community for everyone involved.
That is exactly what the Ludlow Award was created to recognize.
Carrying the Spirit Forward
The Ludlow Award isn’t about one moment or one person. It’s about setting a standard for what it means to be part of TEAM P3.
If you’ve ever offered a word of encouragement when someone needed it, stayed late to help a teammate, volunteered your time, or quietly made the community stronger without expecting recognition, you are already living the spirit of this award.
And that’s exactly why it exists.
Because TEAM P3 is at its best when we move forward together.
